4th of July Celebrations
You don’t have to go far for a Santee-style Fourth of July. Head downtown to 550 Park Center Drive for the annual Santee Salutes party that starts at 2:30 p.m. Food vendors, live entertainment, and plenty of activities for the kids make this an old-fashioned, smaller festival where all are welcome. The fireworks at dusk are the perfect send-off before guests head back to their value hotel near San Diego.
However, for those who want a bigger party, the celebrations in San Diego aren’t far away. Try the annual Big Bay Boom fireworks show which takes place along the San Diego Bay. It all starts at 9 p.m. and boasts the biggest display in the entire county. Fireworks are launched from four barges and can be seen from various islands and landings.
Fourth of Nature
The fireworks at SeaWorld are a favorite, with the show starting at 9:40 p.m. Enjoy 15 full minutes of lighting up the night sky, all set to patriotic music. On this night, the park is open until 11 p.m. There’s also the Ocean Beach July 4th Party at the pier at 9 p.m. After a full day of swimming in the Pacific, shopping on Newport Avenue, and picnicking in the sand, enjoy a fantastic show with fireworks from OB Pier.
Others prefer the fireworks-free party in Old Town. The party takes place at the State Historic Park from 11 a.m. – 4 p.m. with a parade and activities during an old-fashioned celebration. It’s a great precursor to an evening event, or a smart pick for those who are sensitive to fireworks (or traveling with pets).
