Living Coast Discovery Center

For over 30 years, the Living Coast Discovery Center has been giving guests a unique glimpse into the coastal life of San Diego. Wildlife and environmental education are at the heart of the Center’s mission, with special events offered year-round and temporary exhibits always popping up, like the Native Pollinator garden as the featured spring-summer exhibit. Frequent guests at hotels in Santee can take advantage of annual memberships to save big and enjoy an even “wilder” time during their San Diego trips.

Enjoy up-close encounters with a variety of wildlife at the center that’s fully ADA accessible. Fantastic food services include snacks and beverages in the gift shop, or guests can always bring their own picnic to dine amidst nature on the lush grounds. Located at the corner of Bay Boulevard and E Street in Chula Vista, the Center is just a short drive from Santee.

On the Coast of the Bay

Tucked in the San Diego Bay just seven miles from the Gaslamp District, there’s plenty of free public parking and shuttles available. You can also take the local trolley system to the Living Coast stop to take in more of this gorgeous slice of California. Open daily from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m., admission is just $16 for adults and $11 for children, with promotions and discounts regularly available on the official site.

From the turtle lagoon to the shark and reef experience, there’s non-stop thrills at the Center. Look for seahorses, jellies, lobsters, octopuses, snakes, lizards and a variety of fish. Learn about local fish and other sea-life, with new residents arriving constantly.
