San Diego Model Railroad Museum

With over 27,000 square feet of tracks, trains and trestles complete with Balboa Park as the backdrop, this popular museum encourages imagination and creativity. Explore a number of indoor and outdoor exhibits with interpretive programming for visitors of all ages. The goal of the museum is to collect, show and preserve one of the greatest American heritages: Railroads via scale models.

Highlighting the California trains and railroads, there’s something new to discover at every turn. The youngest visitors are instant engineers and trail modelers who get to play with engines, build tracks and craft their very own little engine.

All Aboard!

Can’t get enough trains? Reserve a birthday party, overnight “camping” trip or other special event at the SDMRM. Spend reserved time to learn more about permanent exhibits like the Tehachapi Pass compliments of the La Mesa Model Railroad Club. The incredibly accurate portrayal of the region’s busiest single trail mountain railroad is to HO scale and includes the Tehachapi Loop, Range and Sierra Nevada Mountains.

Open Tuesday – Sunday, admission is just $10.75 for adults and $4-5 for children depending on age. Whether you’re already a train lover or one in the making, hop aboard this exciting outing and fall in love with the world of trains.
