Nothing is more quintessentially California summer-esque than a drive-in movie.
Visit the nostalgic Santee Drive-In at 10990 N Woodside Ave. for an updated experience showing the latest films out of Hollywood (just a short drive away) along with a premium snack bar. Open every night of the year, admission is just $9 per adult, making it an affordable alternative to indoor cinemas.
High-end graphics, the latest in digital projections, and the convenience of piping in sound through your car’s stereo system makes a night “out” at the movies a memorable experience. However, there are a few rules to keep in mind. The drive-in is cash only and there’s no space-saving allowed. Generally, the theater opens at 7 p.m., but on high-volume nights it may open earlier. Call ahead to find out opening times.
What to Expect
Traditionally, drive-ins are both a romantic date night option and an enjoyable family outing. Santee drive-in charges per person, not per car, and pets are not allowed. Since the newest movies are shown here, visitors can expect lines and sell-outs during major releases. You’ll want to arrive early on high-volume nights, and keep in mind that larger vehicles may be turned away.
